You can travel to Salt Spring in many different ways.
You can fly to Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle or Nanaimo then rent a car. You will find it easy to travel to Salt Spring from these cities.
There are three Salt Spring ferries:
Swartz bay (Victoria) to Fulford (south Salt Spring ferry route 35 min. trip).
Crofton (40 minutes south of Nanaimo) to Vesuvius (west Salt Spring ferry route 25 min. trip).
Tsawwassen (south of Vancouver) to Long Harbour (east Salt Spring ferry route; time may vary depending on stops).
Or, transfer to a seaplane at Vancouver, Victoria or Seattle and fly right to Salt Spring and rent a car on the Island.
You could also use the Washington State ferries and travel to Vancouver Island and then take one of the Salt Spring ferries.
